California Governor, Gavin Newsom and the Democrat Super Majority seized an excuse to force redistricting in California on the November 4, 2025 ballot – Prop 50. DEFEND FAIR ELECTIONS – Partisan power grab that threatens the state’s independent redistricting process and costs taxpayers millions. Opponents argue that the proposition, drawn by state politicians to give Democrats an advantage, undermines the integrity of California elections.
Proposition 50 takes the power of drawing congressional districts away from the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, which California voters established in 2010 to remove politicians from the process.
The proposed new map was drawn by Democratic consultants and passed by the Democratic-controlled state legislature. Opponents assert this is designed to benefit the Democratic party by protecting current seats and flipping Republican-held districts.
Secretive and rushed: Unlike the public and transparent process of the independent commission, opponents say Proposition 50’s maps were created behind closed doors and pushed through the legislature in less than a week, with little public input.
